A Short Biography
Robert Tilleard was born in England in 1949. He was educated at Vernon Holme Prep School, Canterbury, and St Augustine's Abbey, Ramsgate. After Canterbury College of Art he did a degree at Bristol ( where he also spent a year seconded to the post-graduate Radio, Film and Television course at the Department of Drama at the university ) and a post-graduate course in teaching at Brighton. He taught at Angley School in Kent and later taught etching at Cranborne Chase School in Wiltshire. He continues to teach privately, at home and abroad. After studying stone lithography in France (and his first one-man show in Monte Carlo) he received a major bursary from the Southern Arts Association. He has since lived and worked in south west Wiltshire. He regularly exhibits paintings, etchings and wood engravings in London, the country and abroad. He paints on his travels and is a constant visitor to Italy. He accepts commissions for portraits, still lifes and animals.

A3 Giclée ( pronounced ‘zhee-clay’ ) prints are fine art limited edition prints created using cutting edge inkjet technology. This delivers unprecedented colour and tone reproduction. It uses the very best guaranteed light-fast inks on specially enhanced etching paper - in my case Hahnemuhle 350g/m2 - to ensure museum quality fine art prints. Giclée has become the medium of choice for leading contemporary artists and photographers, and can be found in major museums and galleries throughout the world. Each print is limited to only 50, and is signed and numbered.
Framing
The prints are framed in hand-limed one inch square oak mouldings with heavy (3.5mm thick) white card mounts.
Recent Paintings
All the paintings displayed are on fine linen and are 1 1/2" deep, which is twice the thickness of a normal painting. The painted image continues over onto all four edges , therefore they cannot, and should not, be framed. All the paintings are in an approximate proportion to that of the golden rectangle.
Commissioned Work - Equine Portraits
The portraits are done from digital photographs taken by the artist at a photo session with the horse. This session is critical for the light , the stance and the expression of the animal. The portraits are oil on linen. The fee starts at £2000 and expenses maybe added.
Commissioned Work - Copies of Family Portraits
The portraits shown are life-size copies of the originals and were done from photographs of the originals and/or from the actual paintings. They were done using old master techniques. The insurance on a valuable original is, of course, high; to have and hang a copy that is indistinguishable from the original would make a considerable saving on insurance. The fee varies, of course, according to the requirements of the client; but it starts at £2000 - and usually includes expenses.
Commissioned Work - Still Lifes
The still lifes of favourite objects: the selection of the objects is done in consultation with the client, and are chosen for their colour, texture,
shape and size, as well as the clients' level of affection for the objects. The fee is priced per object and is usually between
£200 and £250 each. All the work is on fine linen.
The two large landscapes are imaginary, but use real places and objects. They are composites that give the genius loci. Like the 'favourite objects' the elements are chosen in consultation with the client.
Commissioned Work - Portraits
The portraits are oil on fine linen. They are painted from a combination of live sittings and photographs taken by the artist. The photographs are mostly used for reference to the clothes and accessories and saves time for the sitter. The fee varies, of course, according to the requirements of the client; but it starts at £1,500
Etchings
Most of the etchings are aquatints, all are in limited editions of 50 and are signed and numbered and hand-printed by the artist. This small selection is mostly of rare breeds of farm animals.
